Answer by Charlene Walters, PhD, Business Mentor, Consultant, Corporate Trainer & Author, on Quora:
It’s vital that managers create a safe space at work to ensure the comfort, productivity, and wellbeing of their employees. Simon Sinek talks about the concept of developing a circle of safety. I wholeheartedly agree with his philosophy and approach.
Here are a number of a number of ways that you can ensure that you are creating a safe space for your team:

Take an interest in your employees both personally and professionally. Help them grow within the organization and ask them frequently about the things that matter to them as individuals. In other words, really get to know them and their goals.
Plan team outings so that employees can get to know and become comfortable with one another. This is even more important in a remote or hybrid environment.
Establish an open door policy. Let your team know that they can come to you with any of their concerns, ideas, or opinions.
Build trust by having your employees’ backs and making sure that they have access to the information and resources they need to be successful.
Show your gratitude by noticing and thanking team members for their contributions and strong effort.
Set an example by rolling up your sleeves and helping when needed. Nothing creates a greater sense of safety than knowing that your manager is willing to go the extra mile for the team.
Become a strong leader by incorporating empathy, equity, and balance in terms of all of your business decision-making.
