Belkin has fixed one important Apple Watch Series 7 accessory gripe, that virtually no stands charge the wearable at full speed.
The Belkin BoostCharge Pro supports Apple’s MagSafe wireless charging standard. It can reach 15W power when connected to an iPhone, and will charge an Apple Watch Series 7 at its maximum possible speed. This generation introduced fast charging, to reach 80% in 45 minutes.
Belkin’s BoostCharge Pro is a 3-in-1 charger with a style very similar to existing Belkin models. An elegant metal arm holds two charging pads, one for an iPhone, the other for an Apple Watch.
The third spot sits in the base, intended for any wirelessly charging AirPods you may own.
At $149.99 the BoostCharge Pro is not a cheap Apple Watch accessory, but neither are Belkin’s previous charge stands.
Shopping for wireless iPhone and Apple Watch chargers online can be a surprisingly fraught experience. Some manufacturers dress up the wattage by either combining the output from multiple charge points or citing the speeds available when charging non-Apple devices, and not making this quite clear enough from the outset.
The result? Buyers may think they are getting Apple’s fastest wireless charging, but they are not.
All this confusion is largely the result of Apple’s use of a semi-proprietary wireless charging system. While the underlying technology is Qi, as used by all common wireless charging methods, Apple has stuck MagSafe on top.
This refers to the series of magnets that hold the device in place. However, the magnets alone aren’t enough to make an Apple phone or Watch recognize the pad as an official MagSafe one.
